Silk was born in Fredericton New Brunswick Canada. Ilkay Silk is the daughter of Peter Silk, an academic and Anna Silk, an actress, director, producer, playwright. Anna remembers her earliest memories of life when she went to watch her mother's performance during play rehearsals. Silk was featured in many commercials as just a child. Her Bachelor of Arts was awarded to her by St. Thomas University, 1997. Theatre St. Thomas was involved in at least two of the early stage productions, including Seven Menus (1997) and The Kitchen (1999). Silk started her career in acting by moving to Toronto, Canada, at the end of November in 1999. Then she moved to Los Angeles for the remainder of that decade. Seth Cooperman is her future partner, whom she met at a workshop in Los Angeles at an Actors' workshop, in 2007. They were engaged in 2009 and wed in a civil ceremony celebration in December. They renewed their vows on April 10, 2011 at Fredericton during a Jewish ceremony following her conversion to an observant Jew.
